Updating to Joomla 3

In this article I will go over upgrading your XGallery and XMovie content in Joomla 1.5 or 2.5 to 3.x. The first thing you need to do it backup the tables in your database. For XGallery the table is #__xgallery and for XMovie #__xmovie_movies. Once you have these tables backed up and tucked away, go through the normal process of converting your current Joomla version to Joomla 3.x. This also works if you are just going to Joomla 2.5 from 1.5. Once you have your new Joomla 3 site up and running, use a program like MyPhPAdmin and import your XGallery and XMovie tables into your database. Note that your table prefix may have changed with the new installation so you may need to update these prefixes in your SQL export. Once your tables have been imported, install XGallery/XMovie on your site.

When the installation completes, go into XGallery/XMovie, and your should see a listing of your content. Chances are all of the images have been broken as well as links to movies stored locally. Go into Options and set the location to where your root gallery location, thumbnail location and movie media location. If the settings are not correct, the extensions will let you know. Note, you may need to clear your browser cache and also Joomla cache if your settings are not saving or your images are not showing up.

Next click on the category tab and create your categories. Categories are now managed in Joomla. Once your categories are created, go back to your Collections/Movies and use the Batch option to set your User, Category, Language and Access Levels. Note, for collections in different categories, you will need to run the Batch Option multiple times until your galleries/movies are in their correct categories.

Once this is done, go to your menu and add your gallery/movie landing page and then create your categories as children. After you have added your categories to the menu, browse your website and your content should be displayed.

From here, you can proceed to customize your templates and install the support modules and plugins for XGallery/XMovie.
